My Trip To Italy/Italia

During my summer vacations my family and I planned a trip to Italy on May the eighth. It was a 12 day trip and we went to 4 different cities. These are Venice, Florence, Sorrento and Rome. I am now going to tell you about our trip.

Venice/Venezia

We stayed for two days in Venice. It was a beautiful city. We stayed in our hotel, Casa Cosmo for a while. There were no vehicles allowed in Venice, it is a walking (and boating) city.

Day 1:

When we reached our hotel we saw our rooms and then we got a map at the reception. Then we decided to take a walk. We went around seeing the shops around the streets. Then we walked over the Rialto Bridge and took some picture of this bridge. We crossed the bridge to the San Polo area of Venice, ate Gelato from a street vendor and headed towards Campo San Polo. We had dinner at fine local pizzeria in Campo San Polo.

Day 2:

We woke up early to see the Dodge's Palace and the St. Mark's Basilica at St. Marco's square. First we went to the Dodge's Palace along with a guide. It was a beautiful and ancient place full of secret passages, cellars and jails. After the wonderful tour we ate our breakfast at some nearby bars and then headed for the St. Mark's Basilica. We didn't use a tour guide for the St. Mark's Basilica. But it was amazing with all its sculptures and designs. In the afternoon, we took a ride on the famous gondolas of Venice on the Grand Canal.

Day 3:

We left for Florence in a high speed train.

Florence/Firenze

We stayed in Florence for 2 days. It was full of art and museums. Many paintings and sculptures by great artists from Europe are displayed in museums in Florence.

Day 1:

When we reached Florence, we left our luggage in our hotel and went out to eat at an Indian restaurant. Then, we went to a museum called Uffizi. We saw various arts by great Italian artists such as Botticelli, Giotto, Cimabue, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Raffaello. It was amazing! Then, we went to see the Statue Of David in a museum called Dell' Accademia. It was sculpted by Michael Angelo and is said to be one of the most perfect representations of the human body. Then we took a bus to the Michael Angelo Park. The park was situated on top of a hill. The view was beautiful. We could see the whole city of Florence from there! Then we walked down the hill to a rose garden. It was full of beautiful flowers. Then we went to eat dinner at a restaurant called La Buchetta.

Day 2:

On the next day morning, we took a high speed train to Pisa. When we reached Pisa, we went straight to the Leaning Tower Of Pisa. We took some pictures of it and then we climbed it through a long,
winding staircase. There are around 284 steps in the Leaning Tower Of Pisa. When we reached the top, we saw 4 bells on either side of the tower. And when we looked out, we had a view of all the places surrounding the tower. Then we went down the tower again and took some more photos. Then we ate lunch at a pizzeria. We stayed in Pisa till evening and then took the train to Florence where we went to our hotel. On our way we saw Uffizi by night and stopped there to take some pictures of sculptures including the Statue of David in a dome outside the museum. Then we went to eat dinner at a pizzeria

Day 3:

We had breakfast and took the train to Naples, the city near the ruins of Pompeii. From Naples, we took the train to Sorrento.

Sorrento/Surrentum

Day 1:

When we reached Sorrento, we headed straight for our hotel. It was a hilly city. We left our luggage in the hotel, had lunch at a nearby pizzeria, and then went to a nearby area where we did our laundry. My brother and I had a gelato and then we headed back to our hotel. We had dinner in a nearby pizzeria and then went back to our hotel.

Day 2:

We got up early in the morning and rented a car for full day use. We drove to Naples so we could see the ruins of Pompeii. You cannot imagine how things buried under ash and rock almost 2000 years old can be preserved! We saw people made out of plaster put in holes. So the remains of the people were not found but scientists found pits in the shape of people. So they put plaster in the holes. After the plaster dried, it formed what looked like the preserved bodies of people. After we saw all the ruins, we ate lunch and then took a bus to Mount Vesuvius which erupted at noon of August 24, AD 79. The bus went up till the parking lot of the mountain and from there we trekked up. Many people in the bus said it was a hard trek but I did it in 18 minutes! At the crater of the mountain, we saw a thin column of smoke rising up but it went away in a few minutes. There were a few break points in the middle of the trek where we could have a snack. We went back to the parking lot and the bus drove us back to the ruins of Pompeii. We drove back to Sorrento and returned the car. Then we took a stroll. On the way, we bought some liqueur and saw some huge lemons as big as oranges or maybe bigger! We had dinner at a pizzeria.

Day 3:

We woke up early the next day. We had our breakfast and then we took a boat to the island of
Capri. It was very bumpy ride and the seas were very rough but it was fun. When we reached Capri, we booked tickets for a motor boat to go around Capri. It was a very fun ride. Water kept splashing on us from the side of the boat. On the way, we a grotto called the blue grotto. We saw many corals in the grotto. We reached where we started and then had lunch there. Then we took another boat back to Sorrento. A driver met us there and took us for a ride beside the Amalfi Coast. It was a beautiful view. The seas were extremely calm without even a single ripple! We stopped at Positano for a brake. We walked along the streets. It was a like a step city. For example, if there was a house beside the road, then there will be another near the top of it as the city was on a hill. In this way, the houses looked like huge, gigantic steps! After taking a small walk around the city, We walked back to the car. the driver then took us to the town of Amalfi. It was a much bigger town. We had dinner there and returned to our hotel.

Day 4:

We had breakfast and then took the train to Rome. We reached Rome in the afternoon, checked into our hotel and went for a walk to Spanish Steps Fountain area in the evening.

Rome/Roma

Day 1:

Rome is one of the oldest continuously occupied cities in Europe with history spanning more than 2500 years. We visited the the ruins of Colosseum and the Roman Forum area. The ruins were grand and gave a glimpse of the majestic past and glory of the Roman Empire.

Day 2:

The next day, we visited Vatican city. It was so small - only about 0.5 sq km! Then we went to visit the museums of Vatican. We saw paintings made by great artists in the Renaissance Period. We also visited the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica and the Trevi Fountain.

Day 3:

The next day we visited the Pantheon, a large Roman Catholic church. We also visited the Piazzas
Navona and Venezia. at Piazza Venezia, we watched a magic show that was going on. It was very exciting.

Day 4:

The next day, we planned to do some shopping in the morning. In the evening, we visited the Trevi fountain for the second time.

Day 5:

The next day we woke up early in the morning, and took the plane to Frankfurt and then took a second plane to Bangalore.

We all thought that it was a very memorable and enjoyable journey and want to go there again.
